After Image - EXbunker

‘After Image’ is an installation about visual input. The title refers not only to the physiological experience of noticing a black rectangle when you close your eyes after having looked at a bright screen. It also questions the merge of our 2D and 3D world and the visual (over)stimulation that comes along with it. By challenging our notion of focus and depth, the space facilitates a disorienting experience.

The installation is made of wood, plaster and paint. The white walls, ceiling and floor are covered with black rectangles that fit the exact screen measurements of seventeen electronic devices such as the IPhone 6, LG Nexus 5X and the iPad Retina. The abstract work in the middle of the space is a framed C-print photograph from the series ‘Fenster S’, which shows the colour pallet of consumer products from supermarkets such as shampoo and laundry detergent.

'After Image' has been exhibited in EXbunker, Utrecht 2017.
